You cann't get rid of diabetes as previously suggested. I doubt you would be able to do so, b/c this would add to your aunt's problems, as your kidney would not be "disease free"

Start an intense exercise and diet and you will be able to get rid of the diabetes. Then you can donate. But as long as you have diabetes you cannot as diabetes destroys the kidneys. You might need both of yours if you don't get hold of your own situation.

You can't donate your kidney with diabetes, honey, I'm sorry.

One of the problems with diabetes is it can cause bad kidney problems later in life - you are going to end up needing both of your kidneys for yourself.

Good luck to you and your aunt!

Sorry no.

Being diabetic means an increased risk of kidney trouble (you can avoid this if you learn all about diabetes, avoid high carb meals and keep your blood sugar at the lower end of the normal range). Your kidneys are important to you... I doubt you'll be able to donate.

Also, if your blood sugar is high which it's most likely to be as you've just been diagnosed, your kidneys wouldn't be good to anyone. They have trouble dealing with higher blood sugar and it would be dangerous both to you and your aunt if you did donate it.

Diabetes doesn't go away. You can improve it by looking after yourself and maybe taking pills (or insulin, if you're type 1 or a progressed type 2) but you will *always* be diabetic even if you've managed to go years with great control.

It's a wonderful thing you're trying to do - I'm so sorry we have to give you the bad news! I hope you can find someone else quickly.
