Default If someone has type 1 diabetes and gets a kidney transplant, how much

time does it buy them? My friend is 30 years old and needs a kidney. He has been on dialysis for 2 months and has been in and out of the ER. He needs a kidney. If he gets a kidney, roughly how many years would it buy him? I'd consider donating a kidney if I thought that it would buy him at least 10 years, but not if it's going to buy him only a few years. (P.S. I am a veterinarian, not a human doctor, which is why I don't know much about this.) My husband doesn't want me to even consider it, but I would consider it if it would considerably extend his life expenctancy.
Also, he is not a close friend. He is a friend of my husband, and I have just gotten to know him a bit over the past year.
