Besides fruits and vegs what can I eat for a snack, if I have diabetes and...
...heart disease? Very confused.? I have no ideal what to eat. Listened to two different nutritionist give little speeches. One said to buy peanut or olive oil, the other said corn oil. So which is the right one to use? When buying a product, if it says wheat on the label, it that a good buy? What about sunflower seeds and other nuts? I found all kinds of ceral bars with 90 or 100 calories, is that a good ideal? What about the new "light" pringles chips? Can I dip the veg in any type of dip?

You can take a glassful of oatscereal which can be made tasty by boiling 30 gms with water and fatfree milk in the ratio 2:1 and adding a pinch of salt and two sachets of splenda.You will get a wonderful feeling of fulness and this will reduce the sugarlevel in your blood also.

if you went to nutritionists, you didn't listen. You should be using olive oil, peanut oil will kill you..... when purchasing food, avoid processed foods, buy fresh foods, and how much you eat is as important as what you eat, practise portion control. A good place to learn how to eat in a healthy fashion is weight watchers, they aren't just for obesity, they teach you how to eat healthy.

One of my favorites is a peeled and sliced apple with some mild cheddar cheese slices.
Another is 1/4 cup dried apricots and 1/4 cup almonds. Chewing them together reminds me of pumpkin pie.
Both are not only low in carbs, but have a low glycemic index as well.
I try to stay away from those prepared snacks like Glucerna and so forth. They're not very nutritious, they give you gas, and they have more carbs than an apple.

Try going to the Mayo Clinic website for diabetes. I am a diabetic too. The Mayo Clinic should be able to answer all of your questions.
The authorities are now recommending that diabetics do not eat white potatoes. Once cooked they turn into sugar and are actually worse for you to eat than a candy bar would be. Neither one is recommended. Watch your intake of orange juice, because it is a high sugar fruit. Please stay away from potato chips and pringles, regardless of the term "light". Diabetics do not do well with fried foods either. You will need to learn to count your carbs. Once you understand how different foods store, while others are burned for fuel, you will be well on your way. Just go google diabetes and read everything that you can. Immediately you will begin to feel better and have a lot more energy. You should be able to lose weight easily, if you need to.

The new method of eating five small meals a day has proved to be good for everyone. Also, the diabetic diet should be checked against a diet for heart disease. I am guessing that it will work for either condition, but please check it out further. Perhaps your doctor would preview these diets if you printed them out for him. Does you doctor have a copy of the American Medical Association diet for heart disease and/or for diabetes?

Well, watch out for the fruit. No bananas, pineapple, watermelon. You have to look at the carbs in the food. Pringles still has carbs. I have diabetes and heart disease also. My nutritionist told me to buy the South Beach Diet book. $12.00 in paper back at Walmart. It is a great book. It teaches you about the good and bad carbs, protien, everything you need to know. It was developed by a cardiologist for good heart health, but turned out to be great for diabetics too. It will list stuff you can and can't eat. Good snacks. It also has some recipes in it. Start with Phase 2 and skip Phase 1.
