Default Diabetics generally have circulation problems in the legs and feet.?

So, why aren't compression hosiery good for them? It seems diabetics do not need the compression, but to have loose fitting socks and hosiery. Seems to me the compression type hosery would help increase circulation in their legs and feet.

Steady compression restricts blood flow, just like a blood pressure cuff does.

That's the last thing they need.

Besides, if that were the cure, what would the men do?

In the "dark ages of diabetes" this was a major problem. The "dark ages" are more than 15 years ago!!

Now we have improved medications, lower glucose number standards, and above all we have the personal glucometers!!!

We can have instant glucose readings with these little miracles!!! In the past it was a guessing game! So with the glucometers, we can have tight glucose control on a daily basis.

This means less chance of nasty effects like PAD and circulation problems!!! High Glucose numbers destroy the tiny blood vessels in fingers and toes and eyes. We are now able to choose not to have the high numbers!!

Aren't you glad you live in the 21st century!!!

Compression hosiery treats a different type of circulatory problem (varicose veins, back flow, etc.). A diabetic's problem is not that kind of circulation problem. Compression hosiery would actually contribute to the lack of circulation, not improve it.

My older sister and my mother have diabetes and poor circulation in their legs and feet. Both of them showed remarkable improvement when they started wearing compression stocking. If prescribed by a doctor, they should be covered by medical insurance. The things aren't cheap so it is a good idea to check it out with your insurance I don't know where you got the idea that it's not good for them.EXERCISE all so helps tremendously as does elevating the feet when sitting.
