Peripheral Neuropathy is the most common neurological complication related to diabetes. Damage to the microcirculation (capillaries) from high blood sugar leads to nerve damage, causing pain, a burning sensation, or "pins and needles" sensations in the feet and hands.

Good blood sugar control is the only way to combat this very unpleasant condition, because once the damage is done, there is very little that can be done to treat it.

I don't know what you mean by weird. There are some that are common and some that are less common.

Elevated blood sugars cause nerve damage or what is called Periphial Neuropathy.

Any nerves in or on the body can become damaged due to these high blood sugars.

The most common form of neuropathy is nerve damage to the hands and feet and the first symptom of this is the loss of hair on the toes and fingers.
