the carbonation makes the soda slightly acidic, which can erode your teeth over time. as for the sweeteners, every 2 or three years a rumor resurfaces that anything artificial is bad and anything "natural" is good. Claims are made that a sweetener cause cancer or causes a craving for carbs.

There is seldom any hard research to back up these claims and on occasion, backing research has used highly questionable procedures, such as injecting massive amounts of the sweetener into the bloodstream of lab animals,

Some artificial sweeteners are synthetic versions of the chemicals produced by the taste buds in response to sugar. They produce the sugar sensation without actually having any sugar present. Others such as Sorbitol, malitol and anything else ending in "ol" are "sugar alcohols" that are reject by the the digestive system.

I personally would rather risk a 2 or 3 percent chance of developing cancer that an 80 percent chance of coma, or losing some of my favorite body parts to gangrene.

Well, I just admitted my diabetic father to the hospital. He was drinking can after can of diet mountain dew, and every health professional told me that there is so much crapola (including caffine) in these drinks, that they are very harmful.

His high sugar was literally pulling the water out of his body and he was dehydrated and collapsed, sustaining some injuries.

First of all, you get too much caffine. Secondly, by intaking soda, you are NOT intaking healthier foods and liquids. Try drinking green tea or vegetable juice instead. You are fighting your body's natural function by putting artifical food into your body.

I'm finding out lots about diabetic diets. You have to pay more attention to your food intake than other people. You cannot get your disease under control until you get your diet under control.

They have loads of chemicals and artificial sweeteners in them, it isn't just the carbonation that is the issue.

It is a fact now that sodas hold on to the fat in your body, you end up gaining weight from even the so called "diet" sodas.

Your best bet is drink pure water.

I am also diabetic..a condition I was graced with after my chemo treatments..go figure...anyway I was told by the hospital nutritionists that diet soda are just as bad(if not worse!)as regular sodas, due to the additives put in them..and Splenda(of all the sugar substitutes)was the only one they recommended...without a doubt you are better off NOT drinking any soft drinks...like someone already said..start liking green teas etc. to clean out your system..you'll be better off...not saying it's more fun..just adding years to your life..that's all!! peace!
