Diabetes
About 50 percent of new cases of type 1 diabetes occur in
childhood and adolescence. In fact, over the past twenty years, type 1 diabetes has been occurring earlier
in childhood. There has also been an increase in the incidence of type 2 diabetes in childhood. As with
diabetes in adults, it is important to distinguish between type 1 and type 2 diabetes because the treatments
of the two types are different.
